Presentation at Lowell Makes (Lowell, MA)
9:00 am - 12:00 pm
In this presentation for EMGW members, Dan will share some thoughts on how traditional woodworking fits into a world of modern design. Dan created the "Window to the Past" wall carving as part of a collaborative exhibit, "Conversations in Craft", with North Bennet Street School (Boston, MA) and Fruitlands Museum (operated by The Trustees of Reservations). The wall carving was inspired by the CT Sunflower Chest, ca. 1690, which is part of the Trustees' permanent collection at
The Mission House - Stockbridge, MA.

Dan crafted a reproduction of the writing arm Windsor chair used by Ralph Waldo Emerson when he wrote "Nature", as well as a reproduction of the writing desk used by Henry David Thoreau when he wrote "A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers". Both pieces were part of an interactive exhibit called "The Anatomy of a Desk: Writing with Thoreau and Emerson" at Concord Museum. The original chair and desk, along with the reproductions, are part of the permanent collection at Concord Museum - Concord, MA.
